The S540FM is an S series solid body electric guitar model introduced by Ibanez in 1992. It was also referred to in some cases as the S540F. It was based on the 540S, which was redesigned and renamed the S540 for 1993.
The S540FM features a mahogany body with a flamed maple top and back bolted to a maple neck with a 22-fret bound rosewood fretboard with oval position markers. Components include a low-profile double locking tremolo bridge, a locking nut and Ibanez pickups.
In 1998 the neck was changed from a one-piece maple construction to a three-piece maple and bubinga construction and the design was changed from the Wizard to the Super Wizard.
The S540FML is a left-handed version. The S540BM is a similar model with a burl mahogany top. The S540QS is a similar model with a quilted sapele top. The S540LTD is another similar model without the exotic top and with sharktooth fretboard inlays.
Ths S540FM was discontinued after 1999, being replaced by the similar S1540FM, which was part of the Prestige line.
