The RGA8420 is an RGA series solid body electric guitar model introduced by Ibanez in late 2017. It was produced in Japan by FujiGen as part of the high end J Custom line. This is just the second RGA model in the J Custom line after the extremely limited production JCRGA1601.
The RGA8420 features a 3mm thick AAA grade flamed maple top with natural binding on a sculpted African mahogany body bolted to a titanium reinforced maple and walnut J Custom Wizard HP neck with a 24 fret selected rosewood fingerboard with flame maple binding and Tree of Life position inlays. Components include dual DiMarzio Fusion Edge humbucking pickups, a Lo-Pro Edge double locking tremolo bridge, a locking nut and Gotoh tuning machines. Controls consist of a master volume and tone, a 3-way toggle pickup selector and a mini-toggle switch to split both humbuckers.
For 2019 for markets outside of Japan the rosewood fretboard was swapped with Macassar ebony and the titanium reinforcement in the neck was eliminated. The version sold in Japan retained the same features of the previous year's model.
The RGA8420 was available initially only in Japan, but distribution to Europe and other markets was added in 2018. A new Rhodonite Pink Flat finish was added exclusively for Japan in 2018, but was offered in other markets in 2019.
