The RGA42 is an RGA series solid body electric guitar model introduced by Ibanez in 2009. It was one of the first non-Prestige RGA models.

Features include an arch-topped mahogany body with contrast binding bolted to a maple neck with a 24-fret bound rosewood fingerboard with dot position markers. Components include dual Ibanez active humbucking pickups and a hard-tail bridge. A special feature is the active EQ switch which activates a mid-cut.

For 2011, an updated body shape with deeper scoop cuts on the horns was introduced along with a new set of pickups and the new Wizard III neck.

The RGA42FM is a similar model with a flamed maple top. In 2010, a similar model with a tremolo was introduced as the RGA42T. The RGA42E is a related model with EMG pickups. Similar seven-string (RGA7) and eight-string (RGA8) models were also offered.

The RGA42 was discontinued after 2013.

The RGA42 features an Active EQ controlled with an on/off toggle switch. This EQ allows a bass/treble boost while cuttings mid frequencies.
