The RG420 is a Roadstar series solid body electric guitar model introduced by Ibanez in 1986. The Roadstar series would eventually become known as the RG series.
The RG420 is one of only a few RG models produced with a 22-fret neck. It has the sharp-edged body style which distinguishes it from the older Roadstar body.
The RG420 features a basswood body bolted to a maple neck with a 22-fret fingerboard with dot inlays. Components include dual Ibanez humbucking pickups mounted in pickup rings at the bridge and neck with coil-tap Duo Sound functionality and an Edge double locking tremolo bridge with a locking nut.
The 1986 RG420 has the original swoopy Roadstar headstock shape and the headstock is painted to match the body. For 1987 it gets a black headstock in the new, pointier RG-style shape.
The RG410 is a similar model with a single humbucker. The RG425 is another similar model with the two humbuckers mounted side-by-side near the bridge.
