RG517 Flaked Blue (more images) |
The RG517 is an RG series solid body electric guitar model introduced by Ibanez for 1996. It was produced in Japan by FujiGen.
The RG517 features a basswood body with special flaked finishes in blue and green. The neck is one-piece maple with a bubinga "skunk stripe" with a 24-fret rosewood fingerboard with dot position markers. It has Ibanez V7 and V8 humbucking pickups flanking an Ibanez S1 single-coil controlled by a 5-way selector switch. Other components include an Edge double locking tremolo bridge and a locking nut.
The RG517 was a spot model which never appeared in a catalog. It was offered at least in Europe and the United States. It's unknown whether it was offered in other markets.
The RG507 is a similar model with a Wizard II neck and without the flaked finishes.
The RG570 is identical with the same flaked finishes was offered in the USA for 1997.
The RG517 had a production run of two years. It's believed that it was discontinued due not to lack of sales but because the large paint flakes caused production headaches due to clogged paint nozzles.
